Getting to Samui by air (USM airport)

Koh Samui Airport (IATA: USM) is a privately owned, open-air, garden-style airport in the northeast near Bophut/Bang Rak, built and operated by Bangkok Airways, which owns the airport and runs most flights. The Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi)–Samui hop takes roughly 1h10. Bangkok Airways also flies from Phuket, Chiang Mai, and other regional points; some other carriers code-share or run limited routes. Because Bangkok Airways dominates, fares run notably higher than to mainland airports. Budget travellers often fly into Surat Thani (URT) on the mainland, then connect by bus and ferry. USM is small, walkable, and tarmac buggies ferry passengers to the terminal.
