How we vet what Thaissistant knows

Most advice about Thailand online is a screenshot of a screenshot: a forum post citing a Facebook comment citing a rumor. Thaissistant is built the other way up — from the law and the bodies that enforce it, down to a plain-language answer you can check.

The trust ladder

Primary law

The law itself: acts and regulations as published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette (ราชกิจจานุเบกษา) and the consolidated statutes maintained by the Office of the Council of State. When an entry states a rule, this is where the rule comes from.

Official source

A government body stating its own rules and procedures: the Immigration Bureau on extensions, the Revenue Department on tax, the Department of Land Transport on licences. Authoritative for how the law is applied in practice.

Official translation

English translations published by a Thai authority. Thai law is authoritative only in Thai — official translations are reliable guides, and our entries say when a translation is unofficial.

Reputable secondary

Reputable secondary sources — established law firms, chambers of commerce, embassy guidance — used sparingly, always labelled, never as the sole basis for a rule.

What we never treat as a source

  • Facebook groups, Reddit threads, forum posts — however confident they sound
  • Blogs written for search engines rather than readers
  • A model's training data on its own — every legal claim must trace to a citation
  • Anyone's 'my friend at immigration said'

How an entry is built

  1. 1

Each entry states stable facts, names its legal basis, and links every source with the date we last checked it.

  2. 2

Anything that moves faster than we can verify — fees at a specific office, an officer's discretion, transition-period practice — is marked 'verify live' instead of stated as fact.

  3. 3

When the law and street-level practice differ, the entry says so explicitly rather than pretending the gap doesn't exist.

  4. 4

Entries carry the date their facts were last verified. If something looks out of date, tell us: hello@thaissistant.com.
